Canada’s most respected technology service providers 2022
A survey conducted by Maru Public Opinion for Canada's Most Respected Award Program finds that Canadians have chosen Interac, Google, and YouTube as Canada’s Most Respected Technology Service Providers. This is the second consecutive year for Interac and Google to top the list, with YouTube vaulting from fifth place last year to third place in 2022.
Hearing about Tinnitus
The results of a Maru Public Opinion undertaken for Widex Canada find that while Tinnitus awareness is high among primary care physicians (PCPs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) from across Canada who are active in their field, a majority (58%) diagnose patients with tinnitus weekly but only one in five (21%) report referring them to an audiologist, otolaryngologist or hearing care professional regularly.
Concerned about daughters
The results of a new Maru Public Opinion survey conducted for White Ribbon finds a majority (70%) of parents of a daughter admit it has made them more aware or concerned about the challenges (violence, harassment, discrimination, etc.) that women face in society—especially among those who themselves who are women (75%) compared to men (66%) with a daughter.
Clearly confused
A new Maru Public Opinion survey undertaken for Clearly, Canada’s leading glasses and contact lenses retailer, finds that six in ten (59%) Canadians have vision insurance coverage and, of that group, many (19% – or one in eight (13% of the entire Canadian adult population)) admit they don’t use their benefits more often because they find the process too complicated/don’t know how to file a claim – a barrier that’s especially the case for those who are the youngest Canadians.
Failing sexual consent
The results of a new Maru Public Opinion survey undertaken for the Canadian Women’s Foundation found that when put to the test, a majority (55%) of Canadians do not meet the legal threshold in understanding what constitutes “consent” when it comes to sexual activity. According to Canadian law, consent should be positive (such as saying yes, initiating, and enthusiastic participation) and ongoing (continuing during the sexual activity).
Pushed to the brink
The results of a new Yahoo Canada/Maru Public Opinion survey released today reveal that high inflation has pushed half (49%) of Canadians and/or their family to make drastic lifestyle changes, with another one-third (33%) who say rising interest rates are pushing themselves and/or their family to the brink of financial despair.
Scammed and not concerned
The results of a new /Maru Public Opinion survey conducted for Scotiabank finds seven in ten (68%) Canadians who admit to having been targeted or fallen victim to various financial fraud scams via email, phone, text, credit card, or on social media. Despite this, almost as many (60%) are not concerned about being targeted by financial fraud this holiday season.
Children first
Ahead of National Child Day on November 20, the results of a study undertaken by Maru Public Opinion for Children First Canada (CFC) finds that six in ten (59%) Canadians believe children and adolescents are worse off now than they were a year ago and equally as many (60%) do not believe that the generation will have a prosperous/healthy future.
Make them essential
As both the Ontario government and the union (CUPE) representing Ontario’s education workers, including education assistants, custodians, and librarians, turn down the volume and meet again in an attempt to solve their contract dispute, a new Maru Public Opinion poll reveals that Ontarians are split over which approach would be best to bring the current impasse to a conclusion: a slim majority (53%) believe the government and the union stay at the table for a collective bargain on their own as opposed to being concluded by an arbitrator who can impose a settlement on both parties (47%).
Ontario’s raging dispute
A new Maru Public Opinion survey released today finds that in the raging dispute and brinksmanship over a new contract, the union representing Ontario’s union representing education workers, including education assistants, custodians, and librarians, has a majority (59%) of support compared to a minority (41%) who side with the provincial government. However, the survey, conducted after both the union and the government agreed to put down their strike, and legislative hammers, reveals no other clear-cut verdict for either party on many elements of the dispute as they return to the negotiating table.
Media consumption and trust
The third annual Kaiser & Partners’ Media Consumption and Trust Survey undertaken by Maru Public Opinion reveals that established news media (i.e., newspapers/online newspapers, broadcast news, radio) tops the list with content from social media in general ranked dead last among Canadians concerning various sources of information tested for the integrity of their credibility.
November Canadian Maru Household Outlook Index
The Canadian Maru Household Outlook Index (“MHOI”) is at 87 (which is negative/pessimistic under the index base of 100), down six points from last month’s measure of 93. This is still well below its most recent highest mark recorded in July 2021 when it topped 109 (which is positive/optimistic with anything over the index base of 100). Gap scores are computed by simply subtracting the negative from the positive results.
