Omicron on the March
The results of a new survey taken over this past weekend and released today by Maru Public Opinion finds a majority (56%) of Canadians concerned with contracting the Omicron variant virus and with one-in-ten (11%) who know of someone among their family or circle of friends who’ve contracted this form of Covid in the past ten days. With a majority (54%) believing that the virus is being underestimated, a majority (55%) also agree that vaccines or people's own immunity will protect them – but this is down seven percentage points (from 62%) from early December.
2021 Year End Premiers Approval Ratings
The results of the year-end quarterly approval ratings of Canada’s premiers were released today by Maru Public Opinion and finds that British Columbia’s John Horgan (up two percentage points since September to 60%) and newly ensconced Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston (up one percentage point since September to 59%) hold the top ranked approval ratings for the country while Alberta’s Jason Kenney (29%) and Manitoba’s newly chosen premier Heather Stefansson (28%) are at the bottom of the list.
Happy Holiday Intentions
The results of the first annual Canadian Holiday Season Yahoo/Maru Public Opinion survey were released today and reveal that even just before the discovery of the Omicron variant, many (46%) Canadians were feeling anxiety and pressure as the holiday season approaches. And, while a majority (81%) of Canadians indicated that they felt safe shopping in-person, half (50%) were planning to make the most of their holiday purchases online. For the vast majority (90%) of Canadians who are planning to purchase holiday gifts, the national average spend is $678 CAD.
Omicron Divides Canadians
A new survey released today by Maru Public Opinion finds Canadians divided about the potential impact the newly named Omicron COVID virus variant that has caused a sensation around the world and where countries, including Canada, have imposed border entry restrictions for travelers. Despite the split, most (62%) Canadians are holding out hope that the current vaccines or peoples own immunity will protect them from the new variant of concern.
Employee Workplace Proximity Bias
A new survey released today by Maru Public Opinion for ADP Canada reveals that Canadian employees believe that in-office employees have inherent career advantages versus those who are working either remotely or in a hybrid work arrangement.
Brand Alberta 2021
The results of a Maru Public Opinion released the findings of a survey undertaken in collaboration with Alberta based Janet Brown Public Opinion and CBC that examine the national and provincial perceptions of “Brand Alberta” as the year winds down.
Ontario: Take the Childcare Offer
The results of a Maru Public Opinion poll released today finds that while the Ontario and federal governments are locked in discussions behind closed doors about a potential funding deal that could produce a $10 a day childcare program for the province, a majority (54%) of Ontarians have some advice for the Ontario premier: take the $10.2 billion childcare offer on the table from the Prime Minister. Alternatively, a minority (46%) of Ontarians offer the Ford government its own wisdom: hang tough and fight for or better/fair deal for Ontario.
Canadians and the CFL—Support and Followers Increasing
Just as this weekend determines which finalists will be heading to the Grey Cup, a new Maru Public Opinion poll released today finds that any potential expansion of a National Football League (NFL) team across the border is now much more conditional among Canadians than it was a quarter-century ago in 1995.
Ontarians Split on Ford Government
The results of a Maru Public Opinion survey released today finds Ontarians are split on the Ford governments provincial stewardship – with half (50%) believing the government has the province headed in the right direction versus equally as many (50%) saying the government has the province headed down the wrong track.
Ontario Unvaxxed Healthcare Workers
The results of a Maru Public Opinion survey released today indicates a majority (56%) of Ontarians say the Ford Government should keep unvaccinated healthcare workers in hospitals on the job with regular testing in order to clean up backlogged patient cases.
Ontario COVID Restrictions Redux
The results of a survey released by Maru Public Opinion today finds a majority (53%) of Ontarians would be prepared to turn back the clock and accept the reintroduction of some COVID-19 restrictions if cases reach 1000+ per day.
Holiday Spending Outlook Leaves Coal
Whether Canadians have less money because they’re no longer receiving CERB payments or their wallets feel lighter because of the rise in the cost of living, a new survey conducted for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) by Maru Public Opinion strongly suggests that consumer holiday spending will be down significantly right across the board compared to last year.
