Second Quarter 2021 Provincial Premiers Ratings
A new quarterly survey of approval ratings of Canada’s premiers was released by Maru Public Opinion today and finds Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe (64% -1 ) still leading the premiers with the highest level of approval since March 2021, followed by Quebec’s Premier François Legault (62% -1 ) and British Columbia Premier John Horgan (60% -4).
The Pandemic Impact on Child Eyesight
Maru Public Opinion released the results of a national survey of Canadian parents undertaken for CooperVision Canada that suggests the ongoing pandemic forced in-home stays may have negatively impacted the long-term eye health of Canadian children aged fourteen and under. The culprit is likely the increased use of near vision activities such as reading, writing, and using electronics—the likes of which include online learning monitors, tablets, or a television screen—for extended periods of time.
Post Pandemic Activities
A survey released today by Maru Public Opinion finds that Canadians will be increasing at least sixteen (16) of thirty-eight (38) activities after the pandemic fully recedes—ranging from washing their hands and paying by contactless means to online shopping and working from home—compared to what they were doing before the COVID-19 virus arrived and forced a major societal shut-down in March 2020.
Grave Findings at Residential Schools
Maru Public Opinion released the results of a national survey today in the wake of a recent announcement that a mass grave of 215 children has been found at a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia, finding that it has had a profound emotional impact on a majority (73%) of Canadians and for many, this event, more than any other, has actually shifted how they view indigenous people (58%).
Ford Government Rebound
The findings of a survey released today by Maru Public Opinion conducted for TVO’s #onpoli podcast shows that Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his government has rebounded in approval ratings that had tumbled between mid-March and mid-April after it was assailed from all sides because of a series of decisions, missteps, and mixed messaging. It would appear that both a much more focused communications strategy and a lower profile use of the premier himself for media availability and public engagement has helped resuscitate the governments fortunes as it departs the legislature for a summer break.
Convenience Stores, Community Essential
Maru Public Opinion released the results of national survey today undertaken for Convenience Industry Council of Canada (CICC) indicating vast support for Convenience store workers to receive vaccinations on a priority basis and for secure refrigerated vehicles, normally used for deliveries to convenience stores, or used to transport vaccines to health officials in remote communities.
Re-Opening Overnight Camps for Kids
A survey released today by Maru Public Opinion finds a majority (76%) of Canadians and as many parents (75%) believe that if overnight camps for children and young people have a minimum set of COVID protocols in place then it’s reasonably acceptable to begin planning to open the camps for mid-to-late June 2021.
Canada's Most Respected Occupations
A survey released today by Maru Public Opinion on behalf of the Canada’s Most Respected Award Program finds that of twenty-eight occupations measured, Canadians rank Firefighters as their most respected, followed by Nurses, Farmers, Doctors, and Pharmacists, while Owners of Social Media Platforms rank dead last, not far behind Car Salespeople and Advertising Practitioners.
Ontarians Home Purchasing—During and Expected After the Pandemic
A survey released today by Maru Public Opinion on behalf of Right at Home Realty Inc finds that one in six (18%) Ontario homeowners surveyed would sell to move out of a city to a smaller community.
Canadians Assess their Home Internet
Maru Public Opinion released the results of a poll today undertaken for SamKnows—which measures, analyses, and visualizes internet quality of experience in real-time—finding that by the end of 2020, the average Canadian home Internet user was losing approximately 19 minutes a day due to connection issues with home Internet—the highest being in Atlantic Canada (25 minutes).
Post Pandemic Appetite for Ordering In, Digital Dining
Maru Public Opinion released the results of a poll today undertaken for cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) platform Clover® from Fiserv indicating that Canadians' return to restaurant dining will be more digital and will be complemented by their newfound affinity for delivery.
