Maru Public Opinion released the first 2021 installment of its long-standing quarterly approval ratings of Canada’s premiers today which finds Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe (65%) ranked the highest of any provincial premier measured—up by ten percentage points since the last sounding in December 2020.ay by Maru Public Opinion finds that a majority (57%) of Canadians feel generally politically homeless – that none of the federal political “houses” feel like “home” to them compared with four in 10 (43%) who feel like they have a political party “house” that accommodates them well and that they can call “home”.

Ontario Doctors Could Boost Vaccination Rate
A survey released today by Maru Public Opinion carried out on behalf of the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP), finds that of the one third (32%) of provincial citizens who are either hesitant or resistant to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, a majority (61%) of those would be more likely to roll up their sleeves for the vaccine if they had some assurance from a Family Doctor.
As Vaccines Roll Out, Canadian Consumers Inject Optimism into Economic Outlook
A new tri-country survey released today by Maru Public Opinion finds a majority (61%) of consumers in the United States believe that their economy is Moving in the Right Direction, well ahead of majorities also registering in Canada (54%) and the United Kingdom (53%).
The apparent optimism coincides with the roll-out of vaccines across all three countries with consumers up smartly with their assessments from an identical sounding taken around the same time in February—consumers in the US have jumped from 49% then to 61% now (+12), with bounces similarly among consumers in both Canada up from 43% to 54% (+11) and the UK up from 43% (+10).
Canadian Mask Rules
The results of a tri-country survey released today by Maru Public Opinion find that one third (33%) of Canadians believe their community masking rules are not sufficient to prevent COVID-19 spread—compared to a plurality (40%) of Americans and a majority (53%) of UK citizens who have similar sentiments in their own countries. The survey also found vast majorities of citizens in each country indicating they are wearing masks on a very regular basis, with Canada (88%) having the highest self-reported efficacy compared to those doing the same in the United Kingdom (82%) and the United States (80%).
Canada's Security Threats
A survey released by Maru Public Opinion conducted for the Conference of Defence Associations finds that a majority (55%) of Canadians believe a global war is already happening like a “death by a thousand cuts”, and a similar number (52%) who view China as the highest security threat to Canada and Canadians.
CIBC Canadian Women
A survey released by Maru Public Opinion conducted for CIBC finds that Canadian women continue to balance a challenging set of responsibilities as the pandemic nears the end of its first year, shouldering the main household responsibilities for supervising learning/schoolwork for children, childcare, meal preparation, household cleaning, buying groceries, household budgeting, paying the bills, and acting as the main point of contact for financial advisor. And while these responsibilities are for the average woman, the results are virtually the same for those who have full time employment.
Issues of Concern and Bother to Canadians
A survey released today by Maru/Blue Public Opinion for “Project Canada 2020” led by Reginald Bibby, OC, PhD, a leading sociologist from the University of Lethbridge, finds that the issue of poverty as a very serious concern to Canadians has risen the most (up 22 points) among national issues benchmarked and tracked since 1975, while very serious concern about crime (down 23 points) has gone in the opposite direction during the same timeframe.

A study conducted by Maru/Blue Public Opinion finds that while a majority (54%) of Ontarians believe premier Doug Ford has done a good job protecting senior citizens in long-term care homes from COVID-19 (and 60% believe he genuinely cares about what is happening to long-term care home residents), those results are very regionally driven. It’s clear that the less favourable view of the premier and his government are in the hot spots that have had the greatest challenges and notoriety, namely in the 416-area code and in Hamilton Niagara, while other parts of the province are more positive.

Despite most being uncertain, the survey also found a majority (55%) who are feeling optimistic about their financial future.
