Brands look to consumer feedback to design and successfully market the products and services consumers want and need. For decades, researchers have relied almost exclusively on scalar questions to uncover insights. Traditional scalar data does not capture the processes by which people make decisions. A consumer who chooses a response quickly and a consumer who hesitates and is unsure but ultimately arrives at an answer are treated equally, even though the strength of the response and the predictiveness of behavior are very different.
