Trump Contracting COVID-19

The results of a survey conducted by Maru/Blue Public Opinion indicate that as President Donald Trump battles the COVID-19 virus at Walter Reed Hospital, two thirds (64%) of Canadians believe he will fight the virus with the best medical care in the world he can receive and emerge well and return to an active lifestyle. This contrasts with one third (36%) who don’t believe he will be resilient enough to defeat the virus while still in office.

But politically, despite the belief that the president will emerge from this health battle successfully, most Canadians (47%) believe that he will be defeated and lose the presidency to Joe Biden. However, with less than 30 days to go until the US election takes place, a majority (53%) are in a different frame of mind – one in five (19%) believe that he will not be defeated in the election but at least one third (34%) indicate that they really don’t know what the outcome will be at this point in time.

The vast majority of Canadians (82%) also believe that the president not wearing a mask has contributed to him being infected with the COVID-19 virus – just over half (53%) indicate that it has been a “very big” factor and three in 10 (28%) say it has been a “somewhat big” factor. This compares with one in six (18%) who take the opposite view – that not wearing a mask was “not much” of a big factor (10%) and that it was “not really much” of a factor at all (8%).
